Love is a scary thing. But it’s especially scary when the greatest passions of the person you love are also your greatest fears. That was the situation George found himself in with his “current wife” on their first (and likely last) trip to India. Oh…the things we do for love. Watch George’s winning story from last night’s StorySlam in the video below and learn how he detours his dreams and discovers his destiny. The theme was “Detours.” Click here to see what our friends at Philebrity had to say about George’s story.
Public Service Advisory: If you think you or someone you know might be in love or falling in love, see the diagram to the right for a visual description of what symptoms you can expect to see. George told me his wife looked just like this before boarding the international flight to India.
Our Audience Favorite tale came from seasoned StorySlammer, Bill. When you’re parents check out for an early retirement before you’ve even finished school and you’re left behind while they carve out the next chapter of their lives in a new city, what’s a kid to do? Apply for a summer job! But as is turns out, experiences as an eagle scout, honor role student, and cross country co-captain, don’t exactly qualify you for summer employment working in a basement sweatshop pleating dress material for the Christmas trade. Learn on the job with Bill in his vividly descriptive and animated Audience Favorite story below.
Congratulations George and Bill! Special thanks to all of our storytellers. May the road ahead be paved with more detours and more stories. Special thanks also to everyone who came out last night. The next Slam is Monday, July 9 at World Cafe Live. The theme is “Wild Things.”
