Poetry, Painting Competitions, Erotica…Oh My!

PYPM Competing in Brave New Voices 2011

I know you’re dying for FPA events all day, every day. Unfortunately, that just isn’t possible at the moment (But just wait until our 10 day festival this November!) While you wait (and on the nights you’re not attending StorySlams), I thought you might want a heads up on other amazing events that are going on this month!

Salon begins: 8pm
Where: TIME Restaurant (1315 Sansom St.)
Join the community of erotic connoisseurs, readers and writers who enjoy sharing “sensexuala,” material of a sensual and/or sexual nature, for a night of live erotic storytelling.

The Philly Youth Poetry Movement is a non-prof

it organization committed to helping the youth of Philadelphia discover the power of their voices through spoken word and literary expression. Founded in 2006, PYPM provides a safe environment for at-risk youth ages 13-19 to use poetry as a vehicle to express and advocate for themselves, explore their identity(ies), enhance literacy and critical thinking skills, and become agents of social change. PYPM offers free weekly workshops, hosts monthly slams, and provides national/local performance opportunities!

Fourth Wall Arts Salon
Date: Saturday, August 27
Time: 7-9pm followed by Artist Reception
Where: William Way Art Center (1315 Spruce St.)
Each month, the Fourth Wall Arts Salon is a place where artists and intellectuals of the contemporary vanguard show and speak on their work in an intimate setting. In an atmosphere of intention and focus, there is encouragement to interact. The Salon is a place where International and Philadelphia artists gain exposure and guests gain entertainment, information, and art itself.

Battle of the Canvas
Date: Saturday, August 27
Time: 12-10pm
Where: The Artists Piazza (2nd and Germantown Ave.)
The Battle of the Canvas is a FREE live painting competition that encourages the involvement of emerging and professional visual artists to paint under a theme that will promote social change through artistic images. In addition to fusing diverse artists with different skill levels together, appreciating visual arts out of galleries and museums is our goal since this free event will allow the public to connect with and interact with artists as they paint.
