Getting Testy: Philly vs. Boston “Experiments” Slam
This past Friday four of First Person’s finest took on story slammers from Boston story slam organization, massmouth at the SOLD OUT Third Annual First Person Arts Inter-City StorySlam smack down. Slammers put their stories to the test with the theme “Experiments” in honor of the Philadelphia Science Festival.
Kicking off the night, acclaimed science writer, Guest Storyteller and Judge, Mary Roach got us in the mood with some storytelling foreplay. Check back to learn how she donated her body to science in the video of her performance coming soon to YouTube!
Among the stories, three goldfish one-hit-wonders made their big debuts on the big screen and made a killing. A younger sister’s porn star glam session sparked new life into a Mennonite grandma’s funeral. But our Winning Storyteller and Audience Favorite’s story was so good it’ll make your eyes pop out. Literally.
The after party at Kite and Key was wall to wall packed with Philly and Boston fans alike toasting a night of excellent storytelling. Cheers to Overall Winner and Audience Favorite, Jim Stahl representing Team Boston and story slam organization massmouth! Congratulations Team Philly for winning the title “Best City!” Special thanks to our host, Beth Nixon. Thanks to everyone who came out to help us root root root for the home team!
